Tracer Development


Cyclotron

The Radiopharmacy Facility of Ghent University/Ghent University Hospital houses an IBA cyclotron, type Cyclone 18 MeV, with the following specifications:


  • 18 MeV protons and 9 MeV deuterons
  • 8 exit ports for targets
  • Liquid target transfer system connecting up to 6 hot cells
  • Up to 6 mounted liquid targets for 18F-fluoride production with a EOB capacity ranging from 30 GBq to 500 GBq
  • 1 Gas target for 11C-methane production with a EOB capacity of 50 GBq

The "FDG cleanroom"

  • 1 lab for FDG synthesis equipped with 2 hotcels (Comecer BBS)
  • 1 lab for FDG dispensing in class A hotcel (Comecer Agatha)
  • 3 FDG synthesizers (own system)
  • 1 Dispensing system (own system)
  • 1 LAF class A for aseptic preparations

  • 1 lab equipped with 2 LAF hoods for reconstitution and dosing of SPECT tracers for diagnostics or therapy and manipulation/analysis of bloodfractions
  • 1 lab equipped with 1 LAF hoods for dosing of PET tracers
  • Dosecalibrator with Comecer IBC-Nuclear Medicine dose management system
  • Scannix - Multi-Wiper Multi-well wipe counter


Quality Control lab

The Radiopharmacy Facility of Ghent University/Ghent University Hospital has 2 labs for quality control equipped with:


  • HPLC - Dionex BioLC equipped with electrochemical detector and radioactivity detector (Raytest)
  • HPLC - Agilent 1100 series equipped with quadpump, UV and radioactivity detector (Bioscan)
  • HPLC - Agilent 1260 series equipped with quadpump, autosampler, UV and radioactivity detector (Raytest)
  • HPLC - Knauer 2300 series with RI detector and radioactivity detector (Bicron)
  • TLC scanner - Raytest miniGITA
  • Gamma spectrometer - Raytest Gabi
  • Dosiscalibrator - Biodex atomlab 100
  • GC - Thermo Trace 1310 series with triplus autosampler

Evaluation of tracers:

The Radiopharmacy Facility of the Ghent University/Ghent University Hospital has equipment for the in vitro evaluation of tracers:


  • CO2 incubators for the maintenance of cell-lines
  • LAF cabinets for creating a steril environment and performing cell experiments
  • NaI(Tl) counters
  • Beta counter
  • HPLC equipment with a quadpump, UV and radioactivity detector
  • Gamma spectrometers
